A variation on the tumescent liposculpture procedure is known as super-wet surgery. Super-wet surgery uses a solution that includes a general anesthetic in place of some of the lidocaine and epinephrine. This solution works better to anesthetize the area where the procedure is performed.
Another procedure, ultrasonic liposuction, uses ultrasonic sound waves and an injected tumescent fluid to liquefy fat deposits. This method allows the removal of more fat at one time. The ultrasonic procedure also helps tighten the skin and can help avoid or lessen the need for additional surgery when a significant amount of fat cells are removed. Surgeons use a tube called a cannula to remove fat deposits during liposuction surgery.
