What is your first reaction when you get on the bathroom scales and they tell you that you’re overweight? Most people fret and worry that they ate too much over the last few days and vow to start a diet as soon as whatever excuse they can come up with allows them. You can probably see that will get put off to a later date and the weight will continue to rise. But it doesn’t have to be that way when you know a few things that are easy to do to lose the weight in your own time.
A lot of the reasons people fail to lose weight is because they place themselves under a lot of pressure to achieve what they can’t realistically achieve. One of the really sensible weight loss tips is to relieve that pressure by setting yourself on the path for losing weight on your own terms. That means setting a goal that you are confident in achieving relatively easily. For example, you wouldn’t expect to be able to lose 40lbs in four weeks, but you could lose 2lbs in a week, so make your goal 8lbs for four weeks, or whatever you believe you are capable of achieving easily.
The chances are you will exceed that goal if you really work at it and that will inspire you to work harder to beat the same goal for the next month. Keep that going and in three months, you could be more than 24lbs lighter. This is a real target that is really achievable. So what must you do to make your weekly target?
Remember that you are in this for the long term, so diet alone is not enough to sustain long term weight loss. This is not because it won’t physically reduce your weight, but you’re much more likely to get bored with a restrictive diet before too long. So you should combine a healthy diet with some daily exercise. It doesn’t have to be anything too strenuous, but spend a half hour or more walking fast in the fresh air, or swimming, cycling, doing an aerobic workout to a DVD or whatever activity you enjoy doing. As long as you’re enjoying it, you’ll keep doing it and the weight will drop off over time.
As long as you are prepared to achieve your targets over a longer period of time, you will make them or exceed them and be far happier than you would had you decided to struggle to crash diet down to an almost impossible target. Easy weight loss is enjoyable as well as functional and you’ll keep doing it because you want to!
