Is Your Weight Affecting Your Sleep

by Rob

When people talk about reasons to lose weight they will often mention things like heart disease, diabetes and even the chance to improve your love life. These are all major things but one thing that seems to get missed off the list is sleep.

We sleep for a good reason, it gives our bodies a chance to replenish themselves, repair damage and it gives our minds a chance to mull over events of the day.

If your sleep is constantly disrupted you wake up early and you do not feel refreshed. This constant disturbance in your sleep pattern is often caused by sleep apnea and one of the biggest causes of sleep apnea is obesity.

If you are carrying more than a few pounds more than you should be then it can almost be guaranteed that losing some of that weight will help you feel better. Anyone who has ever had children knows how sleepless nights affect you when you have a few of them strung together.

If you are suffering with sleep apnea then it is like having a toddler wake you up many times a night, constantly. It isn’t fun, it leaves you feeling wooden and listless the next day and no one enjoys that feeling.

So the two questions you need to consider are.. Do you sleep badly and are you overweight?

If you answered yes to both of the questions then you must realize that they are almost certainly related. By making a plan to lose some weight you could also be improving your sleep. It is really like a self reinforcing circle.

As you lose weight your sleep patterns will improve and you will wake up with more energy so you will feel more able to do some exercise which will help with the weight loss. Can you see how this can keep on rolling onto itself and the end result is you will feel a lot better.

If the weight loss doesn’t help your sleep but does reduce your chances of diabetes and heart problems you aren’t exactly losing out are you?
