How Do You Find the Best Diet Plan?

by Rob

I have tried so many different diet plans with not much success. There was the plan that convinced me, via their television advertising with big name celebrities, that I would lose weight quickly and not go hungry during the process. And, they even offered two weeks of free food!

How could I pass up this opportunity? It seemed too good to be true. I quickly rushed to the computer: most of my shopping these days is done online, and purchased enough food to get me through a month. My goal was to lose at least 10 pounds that first month. After all, my sister’s wedding was coming up and I was the maid of honor and no dress was going to rule me! I had to lose the weight to fit into that dress and nothing was going to stop me!

I waited anxiously for my weight loss package to arrive. It took a couple of days but then showed up on my front doorstep. A large box, bursting with food – my ticket to my goal weight!
I couldn’t wait to get the box inside. I opened it with joy. As I pulled out the individual meals, my joyful expression turned to confusion and then to dread. Ugh, everything was dehydrated. And, the meals that were not dehydrated did not need refrigeration. How is that possible? Even back then when I was searching for the best weight loss diet, I knew that if something didn’t rot, it couldn’t be good for me.

Nonetheless, I had spent $300 on all of this “food” and there was, after all, the dress. So, I embarked on eating these tiny, dehydrated, preservative laden portions, all the while knowing that this diet was very temporary and long term this was not going to work!

At the end of the 30 days I had lost about 5 pounds. I was only half way to my goal. And, I had not enjoyed the experience at all! I experienced headaches, stomach upset and HUNGER!

Obviously, this was not the best diet plan for me. And, it was not until a couple of years later when I learned I had a serious illness that I was able to make the switch to a better diet. As a result, the weight came off on its own, and then some. In total I lost 50 pounds. How did I do it?

It was simple. I went back to nature and found this to be the best weight loss diet around. For health reasons, I was forced to cut out processed foods, refined grains and sugars, saturated fats and dairy products. I began shopping the perimeter of the supermarket. My shopping cart began to fill with mostly fruits and vegetables (organic when possible).

I became creative about my meal planning and now have to think ahead about what I will prepare. But the result is that I have regained my health and I have dropped the excess weight as a result. As it turns out, the best diet plan is cutting out the crap and returning to whole foods. It is the healthiest, simplest approach around. And, guess what, it works!
