It’s pretty clear where scientists are putting their priorities these days. Why bother trying to make adults taller when you can genetically engineer growth plates? Scientists are subject to funding limitations and they have to chose where to put their efforts in.
The benefits of manipulating the growth plates versus using advanced height growth techniques are in favor of manipulating growth plates. Growth plates are the bodies natural mechanism of gaining height. It’s a lot easier to gain height from the growth plate than anywhere else.
Giving a funding choice: the choice is clear to a scientist. Put the money into studying the growth plate.
Their are several natural adult height increase methods whose effectiveness can be proven by simple physiology and biology. It’s been proven that you can grow appopositionally by acquiring more periosteal thickness. Short and irregular bones like those in the spine are completely covered by periosteum therefore it is possible to grow taller that way.
If it’s physiologically and biologically possible to grow taller by acquiring periosteal width then why haven’t scientists done studies? They have done studies in boxers whose constant twisting forces when they throw a punch cause shearing forces on the periosteum. But have they done longitudinal studies on adults? Nope. They would rather focus on the growth plates.
Lateral Synovial Joint Loading is one of the most promising height increase methods I’ve ever seen. It involves placing a load on the epiphysis of your long bones to stretch the cortical bone of the long bone. For children, it helps the growth plates accrue mesenchymal stem cells. It may even have that affect in results. What age mice have scientists been performing lateral synovial joint loading on? Rats who do not yet have fused growth plates.
It’s clear that scientists have to make choices on where to put their funding. They’re not going to put their research in natural adult height increase so we’re the ones who’ll have to.
