Squat Rack Choices

If you are looking for a good squat rack, then there are few options that you need to consider. Mainly, these options revolve around safety and cost, and what you decide to go with will ultimately be determined by how much you want to lift and your experience level.

The main option that you need to consider is whether or not the squat rack will be an entire cage that surrounds you completely and protects you in case you fall backward or end up squatting down too low and can not get up by yourself. These squat racks are made by several different manufacturers, but one that I generally recommend is the Powerline Squat Rack, and these really are great. Frankly, I would not personally purchase any other kind (maybe a different brand but not different kind) of squat rack, as safety is a big concern with me, and I end up lifting weights alone a lot of times. However, if you are looking to maybe save some space in your home gym or some money, and you have a relient workout buddy who you can trust to spot you properly, then you may not need a fully enclosed rack, and a more simple, cheaper rach may be just fine.

However, given that you will inevitably not be lifting with a spotter every time, and due to the fact that the cage does not take up too much more space, then it really is more highly recommended to purchase the full rack. This will allow you to have the piece of mind knowing that you are safe doing the squats no matter what, even if you have a spotter (as spotters can fail some times too). This is especially true of course if you are a beginner weight lifter, as squats are very difficult to master with the proper form and can be very damaging when not done properly.
