TMJ Exercises: Are You Doing Them Properly?

by Rob

For those that don’t know what TMJ is, it’s a jaw condition that plagues millions of people worldwide and is rather tricky to treat, but there is one thing that has been having a fantastic effect and that is TMJ exercises.

TMJ exercises are absolutely fantastic for your jaw, if you do them right that is. Many people make the mistake of thinking that they can do exercises for TMJ a few times and then be cured of their symptoms. This can be an easy trap to fall into, as you can feel pain relief within a few days of doing them. But you need to be consistent and thorough with the exercises. Make them a part of your daily routine and then you’ll reap the rewards.

Once you’ve been doing the exercises for a while, your jaw will have a lot more strength and will be positioned better. Then you can stop doing them as frequently and hopefully after maybe a month or two, never have to do them again!

While you are doing the actual exercises, always remember to keep your posture as correct as possible. Slouching will reduce the effect of the exercises and is one of triggers for TMJ pain. If you have correct posture, this will relieve a lot of tension and allow you to get the most of your exercises and relieve pain quickly.

As well as this, don’t strain to hard while doing your TMJ exercises. Men in particular seem accustomed to pushing themselves in areas like these. But if you feel any pain, you should either stop exercising or at least reduce the intensity of your exercises. Undue stress on your ligaments which are already quite weak can cause further injury.

So there you have it, some tips to get the most out of your TMJ exercises so you can go down the path towards pain relief that little bit faster. One last tip is to watch your diet; avoid foods that will raise the heart rate, which can make you tense and stress. Eat well, stay as stress free as possible and do your exercises regularly; the three golden rules to getting rid of your TMJ syndrome.
