The Side Effects of using Botox

by Rob

Just as with almost any medicine on the market today there are side effects associated with taking the drug Botox. If you are not familiar with Botox it is a toxin that is injected under the skin and it effectively eliminates or reduces fine lines and wrinkles of the skin or more specifically the face. It essentially relaxes or induces paralysis of the muscles of the facial area giving it a more smooth and younger look.

As with any medicine there are side effects associated with taking this product. Not everyone will experience these side effects and it has been found that even those who do have found the treatment for them to be quite minor. Doctors have conducted group studies for side effects of Botox injections in distinct applications – when used for cosmetic purposes and when used to treat medical conditions other than cosmetic.

When used for cosmetic purposes some of the side effects include: increased blood pressure, heartburn, dental problems, pain in the facial area, nausea and heavy or droopy eyelids. When used for non-cosmetic purposes side effects include: headaches, neck pains, respiratory problems, difficulty when swallowing, deviations in alignment of the eyes and an increase in the percentage of those that complained of heavy or droopy eyelids.

Other Botox side effects common to overall usage include: anxiety, back pain, bleeding at the point of injection, stuffy and/or runny nose, dry mouth and drowsiness. There are some serious side effects that are signs of botulism poisoning that should reported immediately to your physician. These include: speech problems, difficulty breathing or swallowing, blurred or double vision and muscle weakness. Botox can and has been used by many with no ill effects. You may or may not experience some or none of these side effects however if you do the safest and best course of action would be to report it to your doctor immediately.
