Exploring the Reiki Massage Method

by Rob

Reiki is a practice of using the energy of the universe. We know that every thing is comprised of energy in one state or another. Each of these energies have a different vibration or frequency level. Reiki is a very old practice of directing this energy as a way to rebalance the body. It is essentialy a laying on of the hands type of healing. Reiki can be used in combination with a traditional massage or it can stand alone as
a type of modality.

A person who has been trained to practice Reiki will have learned how to allow themselves to be the channel from which the life force or the energy force of the universe can flow. They will also have been taught how to direct this energy to the areas that are in most need of it. Many people like the idea of a Reiki session because they are able to remain clothed. In a regular massage session, it is usualy considered best to be unclothed in order to fully receive the benefits of the massage. With Reiki, it does not matter if the client remains clothed because the energy force is able to penetrate the clothing.

With a Reiki massage you will be asked to wear loose clothes as you will want to be able to breath deeply and naturally. The massage can be performed on a table or in a comfortable chair. If you want, you should also be able to compliment your session with the use of meditative music and different scents. This will contribute to a relaxed and serene atmosphere for your session.

You will be asked to close your eyes and to take some deep cleansing breaths. Sometimes the Reiki practioner will ask you to imagine that you are enveloped in a warm white or blue light. This will be followed by the practioner following a sequence of Reiki movements that are used to direct the energy where it needs to go.

If you do not like to be touched, then the practioner can also direct the energy without touching you.

Reiki has been found to be effective in stress reduction and relaxation, thus contributing to the overall feelings of well being for a client.
