If you’ve done your homework on acne you know by now that acne breakouts aren’t caused by what you eat, your personal hygiene habits, or how much stress you’re under. No, acne breakouts are caused by dead skin cell and sebum clogs that form in the pores of your skin. And in order to prevent acne, you have to prevent those clogs from forming and growing.
The first step is to plan your attack. You’ll need to cleanse, medicate, and possibly moisturize your face (or other blemish breakout areas) multiple times a day. How and when can you do that? Does that mean getting up 15 minutes earlier every morning so you can run through the routine before work or school? Can you make time on your lunch hour for another run? What about the evenings and just before bed? And then there’s the weekends to consider, how different will they be?
You need to think ahead and lay out (on paper or in your mind) how and when you’ll apply your skin treatments. Only you know your own schedule and habits. Figuring out where to fit these treatments into your life takes a little thought.
Now that you have a rough plan, it’s time to prepare for your success. Pull together all the acne products you need for your treatment. Maybe you need a set for your home and a second set for your backpack. Maybe, you even need a third set for special travel or weekends. In any case, put them all together in a way that’s convenient to you and your life-style.
Now that you’ve planned and prepared, you must execute. This is the most difficult part of preventing acne but it’s where the most meaningful work gets done. Stick to your plan. Go through your morning, noontime, and evening routines consistently. Try not to miss a treatment but don’t beat yourself up if you do, just get right back on the acne treatment train and move forward. It will take time, at least weeks, before you begin to see real results so be patient. That patience will be rewarded because an organized approach is what it takes to really prevent acne.
